Conventional swine systems

Though we discuss conventional and alternative swine under separate headings, it is important to note that the WCROC approaches all of its swine research with a dual-pronged approach.

Conventional studies are conducted as a means to compare the development of alternative swine systems.  By analyzing the two in concert, we can devise systems that are sustainable, high quality, and highly productive.

Current studies also include the utilization of Minnesota-grown feedstuffs to enhance profitability of swine operations while expanding markets for Minnesota’s crop producers.  Animal welfare and behavior studies examine the influence of social and physical environment on behavior, welfare and pig performance.
