Vacuum provides alternative for controlling flies

Organic dairies in Minnesota are testing a new machine that vacuums flies from cows before they come to the parlor for milking. The University of Minnesota's West Central Research and Outreach Center in Morris installed a machine, which goes by the brand name Cow Vac, at its dairy two years ago, and this summer researchers there began working with seven dairies throughout the state to see how well it helps control flies during the grazing season.
