Your Money, Your Goals is a financial empowerment toolkit created by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) that equips frontline staff with tools and skills to empower clients in understanding their own financial situations and connects them to resources available in their community. The financial capability topics addressed in the Toolkit allow service providers to help clients make spending decisions that can help them reach their goals; order and fix credit reports; avoid tricks and traps as they choose financial products; make decisions about repaying debts and taking on new debt; keep track of their income and bills; and decide if they need a checking account and understand what they need to open one.

Your Money Your GoalsThe University of Minnesota Extension Center for Family Development has partnered with the CFPB to provide trainings on the Toolkit for social service staff, case managers, frontline staff, and direct service providers. Multiple in-person trainings and webinars were scheduled June through September across the state with nearly 150 participants.  Francisca Mendoza, Financial Capability Educator, and Sara Croymans, Extension Educator, facilitated a ninety minute session on the Toolkit in Willmar on July 26.  Croymans also co-facilitated a session with Jose Lamas, Financial Capability Educator, on August 16 in Worthington.
