National Public Lands Day 2023

October 2023

By Amy Rager, Extension Educator, Master Naturalist Manager

National Public Lands Day was held on Saturday Sept 23, 2023. It was forecast to be terrible weather and a few sites chose to postpone their event. Those who stayed the course were glad they did. It turned out to be a great day!

We had 15 sites across the state doing a variety of activities ranging from talking at a raptor release, to collecting prairie seed, to woody plant removal and of course buckthorn removal. We had students from the Crookston campus alongside Minnesota Master Naturalist volunteers at Itasca State Park, serving and learning together.

There are a few more sites to report their impacts, but it was an awesome day with hundreds of volunteers making a positive impact on the natural resources community of Minnesota and raising the visibility of the Minnesota Master Naturalist program across our great state.
