Give to the Max Day

Thursday, November 18, 2021

The West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) utilizes solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative renewable energy sources to showcase to others how these systems can work for agricultural production, while also reducing the carbon footprint of our dairy, swine, and cropping operations. As a Center dedicated to research and outreach, we are creating a Farm Energy Pathway so that citizens, students and stakeholders can learn more about the impact that renewable energy can have on agriculture.

The Farm Energy Pathway will be a self-guided tour of WCROC solar systems, wind turbines, and landscapes suitable to adapt to climate change. Educational interpretation will be made available along the tour both in print and electronically. The Pathway experience is ideal for student field trips, community partners, concerned citizens, and anyone who may be interested in how to reduce the carbon footprint of agricultural production systems.

On Give to the Max Day, we are asking for your support to fund a student intern who can assist us with creating the pathway and can develop educational signage and online material for participants to access while on the self-guided pathway.

The WCROC is part of the Climate Smart Municipalities group, in partnership with the City of Morris and the University of Minnesota Morris. Together, we are pursuing ways to build sustainable rural communities.

Every dollar raised will support a student internship in renewable energy, and ultimately bolster our efforts in building sustainable rural communities.
